Natural Therapies: Program Background

AADS offers a service to assist those Aboriginal people who are presently managing their life, family and jobs despite drug and alcohol problems and who are still capable of making reasonable decisions about life changes.

The AADS Natural Therapies Intervention provides an alternative to direct one on one counseling services which will provide a connecting point into various residential rehabilitation facilities to assist harm reduction and abstinence.

AADS believes by making this service available to these clients we may remove the need for future interventions when the AOD misuse reaches the severe end of the scale when a full medical withdrawal may be needed.

The "AADS Program" uses a combination of natural approaches including nutrition, Australian bush flower essence, kinesiology/body healing, pain management techniques, art and music therapy, body massage in association with individual and group counselling and family support.

The program is designed to educate, up-skill and support families to safely manage the painful and difficult side effects of getting off drugs and alcohol.

This Natural Therapies program will form the basis of a research project in partnership with the "National Drug Research Institute" (NDRI) where the results and outcomes achieved will be evaluated and reviewed to improve future treatments and interventions.
