Clinical Community Outreach
Many Aboriginal people are not comfortable to come to services and get help for their AOD issues. Many people and their families also live too far away, have transport problems or face other difficulties that prevent them coming to AADS to get help. As part of a concentrated effort to reach these people, the AADS clinical team conduct community outreach to various locations around Perth.
Prisons are also another location that AADS counsellors regularly outreach to. AADS believe that providing counselling support to prisoners prior to release is critical in ensuring they have the best chance of re-entering the community and not relapsing into unhealthy behaviours.
AADS currently outreaches to:
- Karnany Aboriginal Corporation - (Client Servicing)
- Ruah - (Client Servicing)
- Prisons in the metropolitan area (Hakea, Casuarina, Acacia, Worooloo, Bandiyup, Boronia Juvenile Detention Centre) (Client servicing)
- Culunga Aboriginal Community School
Education
- Progressive Training (Rto) - (Education And Training)
- Moorditj Noongar Community College - (Education And Harm Prevention)
- Culunga Community School - (Education And Harm Prevention)
Partnerships
AADS recognises that because many of our clients have multiple issues in their lives, working with other services is critical in providing clients with the different angles of support they will need to deal with their problems. AADS has a number of formal and informal partnerships with different organizations in Perth to better service the Aboriginal community.
