Wooree Miya Woman’s Refuge

Wooree Miya provides crisis (up to 3 months) refuge accommodation for five (5) Aboriginal women (adult bed capacity) and/or Aboriginal women with children, escaping family and domestic violence.

Aboriginal Alcohol and Drug Service continues to manage the Wooree Miya Woman’s Refuge as an integral part of the holistic and culturally secure intervention programs FOR Indigenous people.

As outlined in the Department for Community Development, Service Agreement, the Refuge delivers the following service activities:

  • Assessment, Support Planning, Crisis accommodation, Transitional accommodation, Non-residential support
  • Counselling, Information, Referral, Advocacy, Practical assistance (e.g. Transport), Support for children
  • Assistance to access services (e.g. legal, accommodation, health, income support, drug and alcohol treatment services, and services for children)
  • AADS Programmes - flower therapy, kinesiology, art therapy and Parenting Programs.

The Refuge is located centrally in Perth and is available for admissions 24 hours per day, seven days a week.

The service covers the metropolitan area, is Aboriginal managed and controlled and predominantly targets Aboriginal women. However, other women in crisis can access this service.
